Old bones, new clothes. Romantiques

We rescue antique and vintage furniture, lovingly rebuild it by hand and reupholster every piece in beautiful designer fabrics. Each one is one of a kind and ready for another hundred years.

Good furniture deserves a second life.

Beautiful old chairs, chaises and stools are thrown away every day because their fabric looks tired. The frames underneath are often better made than anything you can buy new. Romantiques exists to save them, restore them and bring them up to date.

Save rescue

We find unloved pieces at sales, auctions and house clearances and keep them out of landfill. If the frame is sound, it's worth saving.

Restore rebuild

Every piece is stripped back to the frame, repaired and rebuilt with proper upholstery craft, so it's comfortable and strong again.

Update re-dress

Then comes the fun part. We dress each piece in fresh, modern designer fabrics, so antique shapes feel right at home in a modern room.

The upholsterer

Hello, I'm Jacky

Romantiques is my workshop in Droxford, in the Meon Valley. I'm an upholsterer, and I can't walk past a sad old chair. I see the carved legs, the lovely lines and the solid frame, and I imagine what it could look like in the right fabric.

Every piece I sell has been saved, rebuilt and re-dressed by me. I choose unexpected, modern fabrics that make antique shapes look new again, then add cushions and throws made to match.

Stage 1

From forgotten to fabulous, in five gentle steps.

  4. Re-dress

Every restored piece is unique. When it's gone, it's gone. Cushions and throws are made to match and can go with your piece.

Every piece is one of a kind. Drawings show pieces that are still being photographed.

Complete the look

Pieces that go together, made to match

The Ark settee and screen were covered in the same animal toile linen, so they sit together perfectly. Every piece can be paired the same way, with a matching screen or with cushions and throws made in the workshop.
